Bharathy - A brief history
Subramanya Bharathy's songs on Independence inculcated a great deal of national spirit in the people's minds'. This was the reason why he was hailed as a national poet. His proficiency in English, Sanskrit, Literature and Music was amazing. Bharathy's songs also carried a futuristic vision in addition to philosophical input. He fought against many of the social evils through his songs. This great soul died on the 11th of September 1921. Subramanya songs can be classsifed as Patriotic songs, Devotional Songs, Philosophical Songs, Variety Songs, Unique songs, Autobiography, Kannan Songs, Panchali Sabatham, Kukoo Songs, Poertry in Prose Order (Vasana Kavithai). |

Subramanya Bharathy was born on 11th of December 1882 to Chinnaswami Iyer
and Lakshmi Ammal at Ettayapuram. He was conferred the title Bharathy at
the tender age of 11 by learned scholars for his poetical genius and vast
knowledge.
